The other is waiting 

the other is unknown 

the other is scary 

the other is alone 

you’ve got luxury 

you’ve got homes 

the other is dying 

on your phone 

you’re convinced 

it’s a trick of marketing

there’s a risk of

compassion going wanting  

the other is guilty 

the other we hate 

the other we kill 

with everything we think

What will we discover 

about the other 

what will it tell us 

about ourselves 

wrapped in chains 

taken as a lover 

we would do anything 

to escape ourselves
