On your watch

 On your watch

The woman who

discovered liberty

said it was always

hanging around

people too scared

to touch it

preferring their

own fears and doubts

She couldn’t wait

any longer

her heart wound

like an alarm

racing through the city

on a black stallion

banging out

this song

wake up to what’s happening

this evil must be stopped

the world is being poisoned

here on your watch

the sheriff he slept soundly

awakened by a buzz

straight from the factory offices

of a Mister Albert Crumb

he said we got trouble

someone’s found out

the sheriff knew what to do

a sadistic fool

he’d shoot out her legs

then the town could stream

what he’d do next

right there on their watch

Life of the ****

Life of the ****   I love your body   I made a map that I study   there’s just one thing   that distracts me from loving   ideas haunt me   they take me out for shopping   through imagination   stretching endlessly   tell me what you’re building   behind those eyes   come live with me   in the life of the mind   we go from the streets   to penthouse high   but there’s something   more precious by design   enough parties   enough clothes   can’t spend hours   talking about sports   give me a novel or a film obscure my mind’s got enough   junk to last months
