My Likeness

 My likeness

my likeness sees the future

and runs towards it

children on a playground

thinking nothing of spending

the last penny on something

bright sweet and shiny

my likeness imagines itself

happy at home

with a future substance

in a bath, for desert

or sleeping soundly

with its warmth

at points darkness

and anxiety penetrate

an embarrassing moment of the past

the future swiftly shuts the point down

before memory can

sour an optimism shared

my likeness hides itself in routines

burying into dailyness

imagining itself in a higher state

in another day

getting some

future-time religion

Life of the ****

Life of the ****   I love your body   I made a map that I study   there’s just one thing   that distracts me from loving   ideas haunt me   they take me out for shopping   through imagination   stretching endlessly   tell me what you’re building   behind those eyes   come live with me   in the life of the mind   we go from the streets   to penthouse high   but there’s something   more precious by design   enough parties   enough clothes   can’t spend hours   talking about sports   give me a novel or a film obscure my mind’s got enough   junk to last months
